I am an assistant professor of mathematics at Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, and an ongoing student and educator of mathematics. I am interested in better understanding the complexity of mathematics instruction in undergraduate classrooms, specifically within inquiry-oriented settings. More specifically, I am passionate about understanding how instructors design meaningful tasks and how students engage with those tasks.
I am originally from Tehran, Iran. After immigrating to the U.S. with my family at the age of 18, I started my college education at Santa Monica Community College, and later UCLA, where I found my passion for learning mathematics. I then went on to earn her master’s degree in mathematics from Cal Poly and taught a range of courses at both Cal Poly and Allan Hancock Community College. After several years of teaching, I pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan’s School of Education. Through it all, I knew I had to find my way back to the gorgeous Central Coast.
Non-academically, I enjoy cooking and tasting new foods, drinking very light or very dark beer, traveling and finding friends around the world, learning about mental health, reading graphic novels, and spending time with my loving partner, and our goodest dog, Hagrid.
